Your child’s health first begins with you. As their guardian, you have to make the right choices so they will too. Your kids watch everything you do, including what you eat. If you eat poorly so will they, and if you eat healthy they will follow.
If they are more like the latter, the best way to change their diets is to start with yourself. Kids tend to follow in their parents footsteps and they are always observing you. Therefore, you must be a good role model and live a healthy lifestyle. If there is healthy eating for the parents then there will be healthy eating for kids.
If your children are used to unhealthy snacks, you may see some resistance to eating healthy foods. Be patient, take your time and slowly offer healthy alternatives to the food they’re used to eating. Instead of chips and a cookie, give them and apple and cookie. It is important to still include some of their favorite foods, but you should gradually aim them towards a healthier diet.
Communication is very important with children. Teach them about healthy foods and encourage them to get involved with purchasing and cooking foods. If they participate in the process they will be more likely to eat the foods. Show them how to eat the food and let them know that it tastes good.
Children who grow up loving healthy foods will most likely become healthy adults. On the contrary, children who only eat junk will eat junk their whole lives. Don’t let your children fall into this category. If they see you eating chips and other junk food then they will be less likely to eat anything healthy. You must lead them.
Show your children how much you love them by giving them the nutritional foods they need to be healthy.
